What mouse do I use?

  • Hey there groovers, choosing the right tools of the trade can make a big difference to how fast you can get your work done, how enjoyable it is and also how cool you look ;)

OK, the last one doesn’t really matter unless you’re in an office of other people who love this kind of geek stuff and you want to be the ‘coolest’ kid on the block.

About 18 months or so ago I was in Florida for a big event with a business and marketing guru Rich Schefren we spent a few days on productivity techniques, equipment and lots of other goodies.

Rich showed this mouse which I hadn’t seen before at the time. Anyway, when I got back home to Australia I purchased one for about $70 AUD (around $50 USD) and love it!

It’s easy to use, has a some very cool features (forward and back buttons, document flip, cool scroll wheel)

Here it is… the Logitech MX Revolution

    mx3-rev

So if you’re looking for a new funky mouse that sits in your hand like it was meant to be there then check out the Logitech MX Revolution.

In the comments field below let us know what ‘mouse’ you’re currently using and what you think about it!

I use the mouse that came with my Mac G-5. I really don’t care much for the mouse. It’s smooth surface design facilitates my index finger sliding out of position to the point that I may double click when I want to single click. The little ball on top is for scrolling and bringing up widgets, but for me, it’s too small. The one you recommended looks to be a vast improvement. Is it available? Also, does it work well with Macs?

I use the simple, ordinary mouse that came with my computer (Acer). So far, it is OK.

I have been using the MX Revolution for over a year now and love it. I have not found one to even come close to it.

@Bev and blackdogz2000 – Wacom’s are great. I love mine too. But I still find that having a mouse is handy for everyday tasks. But for editing, masking etc. the Wacom is heavenly compared to a mouse and also very fast!

I use a Wacom Bamboo wireless mouse. Love it! I have had a much more expensive Wacom draw pad in the past, and am just as happy with the slightly smaller Bamboo version. The mouse suits my purposes.

I use the VX Revolution, the smaller brother of the MX. However the Logitech software that comes with the mouse is erratic and unreliable so I use the shareware Steermouse software. (I am not connected with Logitech or the Steermouse software.) Aside from that software quibble, it’s a responsive, handy for right handers, agile mouse with excellent configurable buttons and wheels that make intuitive sense.

I use an Evoluent Vertical mouse 3.
The mouse you are showing looks similar.
It has all those different a button for the thumb & there buttons plus a scoller ot the finger side.
I have a Mac & only 3 of the buttons & scroller work for the Mac usless you buy 3rd party driver to give the full options but I get on fine as it came.
I was having discomfort with the more horizontal, normal way of using a mouse & the vertical way helped straight away.

I use the Microsoft wireless Mouse, It’s been alright, but I know there’s better tools out there. I just have limited funds so i have to be convinced somethings better before I can justify the expense.

I have been using the MS Wheel Mouse Optical for about four years, and it works fine. Not funky, but functional!!

I’ve been using a Logitech wireless mouse for about two years and find it effortless. One button checks email another gives options for shutting down and the contextual menus are just fine on my Mac. Scrolling is a bit slow but it does the job.

I have a Micro Innovations, just a cheap little thing that I bought at a discount store. It works, nothing fancy, not even close to this one. Almost makes mine look like horse and buggy next to a rocket ship. (O.K. so I’m a little older than most of you.)

    Hey Shane:

I am using the Logitech TrackMan Wheel. Its time to replace it because I’m developing unnecessary fatigue in my wrist. Bill

I use a couple of Logitechs wireless notebook mice, I think I have three of them. Been using them for years. I did use the original Apple “hocky-puck” for along time and liked it, but when it died I replaced it with a logitech and still use them.

I use a WACOM stylus and it beats any mouse hands down particularly when using Photoshop. Mind you its not $70 either but well worth the extra money as far as I’m concerned. You have the ability to use it just like a pen and that is fast.

    Hi Shane,
Looks good, but I’m stuck with the mouse that came with my wacom. I use the stylus most of the time anyway.

I’m using a Mac “Super” mouse. I hate the way it scrolls my working menu out of site if I move the mouse inadvertently.

@Lawrence: Yeah that’s a major pain. I don’t understand why they call it a “super” mouse when it does THAT! Hopefully they’ll fix the problem if they bring out a new model.

    Hi Shane,
Thanks for the review of the new mouse – looks good, I’m always trying to save time with shortcuts.
I was wondering how it compares to using the NuLooq, which came out about 2 years ago, and also features shortcut buttons/moves for Adobe programs…have you heard of it?
I think it’s okay, but if this new mouse is just as good or better, I’d like to hear more!

about me i use the simple and ordinary mouse :D
well if it’s 50$ that means it costs about 270 egyptian pounds loooooooool. well i’m from Egypt and it will cost me this num… so i don’t mind to have it if i already need it badly, if have an important job and it gonna be fast and helpful for me, but if it just about the shape and look i don’t really care about that.

I use a Kensington Turboball, about time to replace it or get another.

    Hey Shane,

I’m using a Kensington Diamond Eye Precision mouse which is kind of funky – actually reminds me of a sports car because it got rubber click pads and the grip on the sides feels like the rubber on my car tires. Plus it goes really fast.

The scroll wheel is also rubber and looks and feels like a motor bike tire. What the?

It’s probably a bit small – which makes it less than ideal for long hours at the computer. But I still like it. It works well. Besides, I work on a laptop so I often just use the mouse that’s built in to my computer.

It’s wireless, too. So no messy cords. Some times I plug my mouse in to my wife’s computer without her knowing then hide behind the couch and make the cursor move around on her screen while she’s trying to work. She’s convinced her computer is possessed or something. One night I actually caught her performing an exorcism on her hard drive – or maybe she was just ducking down to find a pencil? Dunno!

    All the best.
