I have tried them all as well and find NIK the best to use. I don’t know where people are getting their prices from. You can buy Viveza from Niks US site for $US99.00 (The Australian site has it for $A199.00 – why the difference? ) The complete selection of plugins for $299.00 from either the Australian or US site, the higher price is if you wont stand alone versions. The plug ins work in Photoshop, Lightroom and Aperture.

Thanks Chris, Yeah I just checked and I paid $399 for the complete suite that was the boxed set + $10 shipping in AUD$.

Thanks for the Plugin video Shane.
Since watching the video, I have spent a fair bit of time on forums and other Google material researching the Topaz vs Nik debate.
There are several threads on this topic on DP Review and the consensus seems to be that Nik is superior overall, although Topaz has some very devoted fans, including a number of “celebrity” pro photographers (eg Scott Kelby, Trey Ratcliff, and Kim Seng AKA Captain Kimo).
However, at 600 euros (AU$820) it is four times the price of the Topaz bundle of 10 PS plugins which I have just purchased for AU$210. The list price for the bundle is AU$299 but you can get a 30% discount coupon by participating in just one Topaz Webinar (http://www.topazlabs.com/webinars/).

    Hi, Shane…
In order to log in to Gold Members website, I need to register on that site, how can I do that without paying again the Gold Member fee?

I never received any membership number, but I received the Photoshop Training 4 disk set. If you enclosed any info in that shipment, I propably threw it out by accident.

    In appreciation… Kalevi

Am not as proficient as I could be and this video took me “into the forest”. Appreciated the comparison between the two filter packages. Yes, sometimes price dictates over what you might want, i.e. Chevy vs. Mazarati, right! Thanks for the “look-see”.

    Thanks Shane,
I enjoyed your thoughts on Topaz and Nik. Having just spent quite a bit of time trawling through posts on this subject (ie Topaz vs Nik) on DP Review, I think the consensus is that Nik is probably the better of the two, although Topaz has some pretty devoted fans too.
The crunch though is the price difference – the Nik bundle is 600 Euros (AUD $820) vs Topaz at AUD $270 (with discount voucher).
Unfortunately, I cannot justify paying three times as much for Nik at this stage.
    Peter S

PS: Not sure if I should be posting here or in your Comment box so I will copy into both this time – not sure what the difference is?

Thanks Peter, I hear ya. Topaz is cool and it has some great features. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. :) Just remember moderation is good when it comes to filters!

When you install them they will automatically load in Photoshop. I’m not sure about Topaz you might have to put something in your plugins folder but I think it’s pretty straightforward from what I remember Zeev. You can purchase them directly off of their site or look for a local reseller. Also make sure you get a Coupon code to save some money. One you can use is “STUCKINCUSTOMS” and I think you get 15 or 20% discount.

Have you tried onOne Software Photo Suite 5, Shane? Their Perfect Resize Pro is pretty cool—used to be Genuine Fractals. I’ve always found GF to be very good— if a bit complicated to use—too many options to handle comfortably perhaps but reliable.

Yes, I have the OnOne software too. It’s cool. Takes a bit of getting used to. Not quite as easy and user friendly as Nik or Topaz but some cool features. I generally use PhotoZoom Pro for enlarging real big over GF but both are very good! :) Even photoshop is getting better with age! hehe
